Schuler's Publishes Fresh Recipes & Warm Memories Cookbook to Mark 95th Anniversary in 2004

Schuler's Restaurant and Pub in Marshall, Michigan, which has played host to millions of people during its 98 years of existence, announced the publication of its new cookbook, Fresh Recipes & Warm Memories, on April 11, 2004.

Hans Schuler's son Jonathan was the cookbook author and was the Executive Chef at the Dana Corporation in Kalamazoo. He since has spent a year at the LeCinq Restaurant, a three-star Michelin property with the Brigade of Cooks. He has crafted the many classic recipes served by Schuler's restaurant to its multitude of guests into recipe portions that can be prepared at home.

Schuler also created many new recipes that the restaurant featured during its 95-day celebration of its 95 years of existence in the Marshall community. A history of the restaurant, compiled by Keith Kehlbeck, weaves its way throughout the recipes, using old photographs that show the way the restaurant and its staff, looked down through the years.

The 188 cookbook pages are highlighted with over 80 brilliant color photographs of the 155 recipes included in the book. Long-time Schuler's guests will find the classic recipes from the past such as the famous meatballs, Swiss onion soup, cheese spread, crackers, and prime rib to make in their own kitchens.

Newer recipes include such tantalizing items as Beef Carpaccio and Arugula with Lemon Herb Vinaigrette, Prosciutto Pizza with Pesto and Sun-Dried Tomatoes, and Strawberry Shortcake with Balsamic Vinegar Reduction, that Schuler's aficionados will want to try.

Besides the many delicious recipes, a narrative about the history of the restaurant, the Schuler family, and Marshall itself, threads its way throughout the book and enlivens the food being featured on each page.

Patrons of the restaurant are able to purchase the cookbook at the restaurant which is open every day from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, at 115 S. Eagle St., Marshall. Two events were planned for a personal signing of the book by the authors and Hans Schuler himself, on Easter Sunday and Mother's Day.

Published by Huron River Press, the cost is $35 and may be ordered through the restaurant's web site or by calling 269-781-0660, 877-724-8573.
