MARSHALL RECIPES

Schuler's Restaurant and Pub, known to many simply as Win Schuler's, has been a must-go destination in Marshall for 95 years.

If you've never been to the restaurant noted for appetizers such as meatballs and Bar-Scheeze, you can sample some of the signature dishes in a new cookbook, "Schuler's: Fresh Recipes & Warm Memories" by Hans Schuler and chef Jonathan Schuler (Huron River Press, $35). Fans of Schuler's food will enjoy not only the recipes and well-done glossy photos of food and landmarks but also the interesting history of the restaurant and the Schuler family.

Some of the recipes are mainstays at the restaurant, such as Schuler's Heritage Cheese Spread (which replaced the Bar-Scheeze), served free with crackers and bread to restaurant guests. Other recipes are new, created by chef Jonathan Schuler -- a fourth-generation Schuler.

We tested a few of the favorites; find them by clicking on the link above. To order the book, call 866-491-0100, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays.
