(MARSHALL, Mich)—Love is always in the air at Schuler’s Restaurant & Pub in historic downtown Marshall, especially the week of Valentine’s Day. A decadent pairing of chocolate truffles and sparkling wine is planned for Monday, February 13 at 7:30pm and is sure to put anyone in a romantic mood.
Sonny Rice from Paw Paw Wine Distributors will start the evening by presenting guests with a selection of mouth-watering truffles made by Schuler’s culinary team and then he will introduce a sampling flight of three wines to create the perfect pairing.
According to Wikipedia, “there are three main types of chocolate truffles: European, Swiss, and American. The ‘Swiss truffle’ is made by combining melted chocolate into a boiling mixture of dairy cream and butter, which is poured into molds to set before sprinkling with cocoa powder. The ‘European truffle’ is made with syrup and a base made up of cocoa powder, milk powder, fats, and other such ingredients to create an oil-in-water type emulsion. The ‘American truffle’ is a half-egg shaped chocolate-coated truffle, a mixture of dark or milk chocolates with butterfat and, in some cases, hardened coconut oil. Variations include the ‘French truffle,’ made with fresh cream and chocolate and then rolled into cocoa or nut powder and the ‘Belgian truffle’ (or praline) which is made with dark or milk chocolate filled with ganache, buttercream or nut pastes.
The cost for “Truffles & Tiny Bubbles” is $25 for members of the Taster Guild International and $28 for non-members. Space is limited and reservations are required by calling 269-781-0600. Dinner reservations are also being accepted for the evening of the tasting as well as Valentine’s Day.
